Abstract :English in Nigeria captures the socio-cultural existential experiences of Nigerians, and this idea produced the concept, “Nigerian English”. The fact that the English language thrives tremendously in Nigeria, made scholars conclude that the language has colonized the latter. However, we noted that this submission is still being debated on logical and critical grounds. A critical review of issues on education as a domain of national life was made in this study as we investigated whether or not thrives. However, we made references to other domains of national life since education discourse is all-encompassing or interdisciplinary. Besides, globalization cannot be discussed without making reference to other facets of life outside education domain. This paper examined the prospects of Nigerian English within the ambit of World Englishes, and has also highlighted and discussed the constraints. The approach made the paper a balanced sociolinguistic discourse which is anchored on the phenomena, and “globalization”.
